Napa Truck Driver Hurt in Crash on Highway 1

Tuesday afternoon's tanker-truck crash in Sonoma County sent 64-year-old Doug Heskett to the hospital with minor injuries and leaked used motor oil and other automotive fluids onto coastal state Highway 1. By Bay City News Service.

A hazardous materials cleanup crew today is removing spilled fluids from a spot along state Highway 1 in coastal Sonoma County where a big-rig crashed Tuesday afternoon, a California Highway Patrol spokesman said.

Douglas Heskett, 64, of Napa, was driving south on the highway near Kruse Ranch Road around 2:15 p.m. when he lost control of his 1990 International tanker truck, CHP Officer Jon Sloat said. The roadway was wet from the rain at the time of the crash, Sloat said.

The tanker truck, owned by Evergreen Environmental Services, left the roadway and struck several trees, Sloat said.

The impact dislodged the tank, and 200-300 gallons of used motor oil and other recycled automotive fluids leaked onto the roadway and into the ground nearby, Sloat said.

Heskett suffered minor injuries and was taken to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital, Sloat said.
