Napa Teen in Fatal Crash had Just Left Work

From Bay City News Service.

The 18-year-old driver killed in on Highway 29 in Napa had just finished work at the in South Napa Market Place, Napa police Sgt. Paul Paniagua said on Monday.

The Napa County Sheriff's Office has identified the victim as 18-year-old Dayton William Lane Moore of Napa. Sheriff's Capt. Tracey Stuart said Moore was pronounced dead at the crash site at around 7:30 p.m.

Moore was driving a Toyota Highlander north on 29 at Sierra Avenue around 7:25 p.m. when he swerved off the right side of the road, Paniagua said. The driver's door struck a light pole on the north side of Sierra Avenue, and the SUV spun counterclockwise and hit a fence and a pine tree on the shoulder of the road, Paniagua said.

The light pole fell across both lanes of the highway and was struck by a small compact car. The driver of that vehicle was not injured, Paniagua said.

Moore was wearing a seatbelt, and it is unknown if alcohol was a factor in the crash, Paniagua said. The collision closed the highway for approximately five hours, Paniagua said.
