Napa Strip Mall Fire Investigation Continues

The Pueblo Plaza building that housed six businesses is a total loss after Friday's early-morning blaze, a Napa fire battalion chief tells Bay City News. One firefighter sprained his ankle in the assault on the flames.

It could be a week before firefighters are able to determine a cause and point of origin of a strip mall fire early Friday morning at 2981 Jefferson St., Napa Fire Department Battalion Chief Steve Stuart said Friday afternoon.

The 1 a.m. fire destroyed the six businesses in the strip mall near Pueblo Avenue, Stuart said. Among them are the Latino Market, a hair salon, nail salon, restaurant, jewelry store and money wiring business, Stuart said.

The 250-foot- by 50-foot strip mall that burned is one of two on the property, Stuart said. The building that houses the businesses is a total loss, but some personal belongings were saved, Stuart said.

"We have to secure it and shore up the walls before we get in," Stuart said.

Thirty-three firefighters and six command staff members from the Napa Fire Department, Napa County Fire Department, Cal Fire and American Canyon Fire Department responded to the two-alarm fire, Stuart said.
