The unidentified man found lying on the highway near Lake Berryessa earlier this morning is not believed to have been the pedestrian victim of a hit and run, as supposed when the incident was first reported.
According to a news release from Capt. Tracey Stuart of the Napa County Sheriff's Office,
On September 17, 2012 at about 12:04 am, deputies responded to a 911 call from a motorist who was reporting a man laying in the roadway, in the 7500 block of SR128, near Markley Cove Resort. Deputies and fire personnel responded and found a male in the west bound lane of SR128. The male was unconscious and had major head injuries. The male was transported to Capell Valley Fire Station by ambulance and then flown to John Muir Hospital. He is in critical condition.
Based on the man’s injuries, detectives do not believe he was struck by a vehicle and are investigating.
The man did not have any identification on him and has not been identified. He is described as a white or light skinned Hispanic male. He was wearing boxer shorts, black socks and two t-shirts (one red and one white).
Anyone with information is asked to call detectives at 253-4591.
