Napa County Detectives Seek Clues to ID Unconscious Man

Found lying on Highway 128 near Lake Berryessa just after midnight, the man is in critical condition with major head injuries, according to Napa County sheriff's personnel who believe he was not injured by a hit and run as initially reported by CHP

The unidentified man found lying on the highway near Lake Berryessa earlier this morning is not believed to have been the pedestrian victim of a hit and run, as supposed when the incident was first reported.

According to a news release from Capt. Tracey Stuart of the Napa County Sheriff's Office,

On September 17, 2012 at about 12:04 am, deputies responded to a 911 call from a motorist who was reporting a man laying in the roadway, in the 7500 block of SR128, near Markley Cove Resort. Deputies and fire personnel responded and found a male in the west bound lane of SR128. The male was unconscious and had major head injuries. The male was transported to Capell Valley Fire Station by ambulance and then flown to John Muir Hospital. He is in critical condition.

Based on the man’s injuries, detectives do not believe he was struck by a vehicle and are investigating.

The man did not have any identification on him and has not been identified. He is described as a white or light skinned Hispanic male. He was wearing boxer shorts, black socks and two t-shirts (one red and one white).

Anyone with information is asked to call detectives at 253-4591.

Height? Weight? Approx age? Hair color? Eye color? The identification given in the story describes more than half of the adult male population of Napa.

Isn't this the 2nd time that this has happened within the last 6 months?? I remember a hispanic male was also found bound and hurt near Monticello Dam a few months ago.

It's nearing harvest time for, you guessed it, cannabis. Maybe the cartel didn't want to pay up? Makes you wonder how many bodies are laying out there who never made it to a roadside. And btw, I smelled cannabis in the air last night, not the smoking joint type but the harvest type. The wind picks it up and carries the scent. I live near a vineyard. Pot is being grown in the forests both near vineyards (access to water), and deeper into the woods and brush of rural Napa County. I hope innocent people do not stumble across it. This is another reason why we need to control our borders.

My boyfriend surmises he might have fallen out of the back of a truck. I agree that a better description would be helpful (age, especially) but it sounds like he needed to be hospitalized ASAP before the detectives could do their thing. This reminds me not only of the bound man mentioned above but even more strongly of young Ramon Ramirez, the high school soccer player found in a similar condition on a Napa street almost a year ago. He did not survive and whoever or whatever killed him is still unknown; Napa Valley Crime Stoppers has offered a reward for information leading to an arrest.

I hope he gets better soon! I may be wrong about the location, but wasn't there was a roll over accident up there yesterday? Perhaps he was thrown from the vehicle/s or ran from the scene? Head injuries aren't always immediately apparent. Why are his pants missing? Did some one yank him out of bed and take him out there to 'teach him a lesson'? Lousia, thank you for mentioning young Ramon Ramirez, I'm happy he hasn't been forgotten about.

I feel like he was pushed out of a moving vehicle.

This just in via email to napa@patch.com "I would like to respond to the comments regarding the young man found on the Hwy. near Markley Cove. I was the one who found him this morning and I called 911. I don''t mind if you post what I have written below but I do not want to have my name revealed: ... The young man found early this morning was not a hit and run victim. Nor was he dressed to be riding in the back of a truck. He was only half dressed; no pants, and socks but no shoes. This young man was on a section of the Hwy where he would have been killed had two cars passed by. Fortunately only one car passed by and this young man's life was saved."

This story reminds me of the bound man found in the area a few months back. He did not have shoes on either. When you're in a hurry to escape, messing around with putting shoes on is not a priority. People are disposable to cartels. By now that should be obvious.
Belle (Orchid Lady) September 18, 2012 at 05:57 PM
There are several possibilities of why he had no pants or shoes. One being, he could have been caught with someone's wife or daughter, and may have had a run in with an angry husband or father. We don't always have to jump to the 'cartels' conclusion.

Everyone posting needs to remember that this man is someones son and the family is hurting over what has happened to him and are searching for answers insensitive comets dont help regardless of why it does not really matter there is never a reason to do this to another person no family should ever have to go through this kinda pain and they may never know what really happened how would you feel if this was your brother, son or friend I know this man and his family I have not seen him since we were kids but does not change the fact of what happened to him has deeply bothered me its really different reading a story about a stranger and someone you know so please pray for his recovery and for his family for healing and just hope that it is not your family or loved on that this happens to and that they find the answers as to what really happened that night because there is someone out there that saw or knows what happened to him and has not or will not come forward
