Napa Police Warn of Fundraising Scam

Residents should reject people posing as police officers and seeking money.

The Napa Police Department has received reports that persons are posing as representatives of the Napa Police Department and are soliciting for donations.

"The Napa Police Department does not solicit for donation of funds," said NPD Capt. Jeff Troendly. "The Napa Police Officers Association does, on occasion, solicit for funds -- but this is accomplished by mailer only."

Troendly said scammers posing as businesses, government agencies or non-profit groups soliciting for funds are very prevalent today.

"As with any solicitation, before providing personal and/or account information, or providing funds, please verify the validity with the origination," he said.
