Napa Police Warn Drivers of Freeze Hazards

From the Napa Police Department via email.

The issued an alert Thursday evening warning of hazardous driving conditions overnight and early Friday:

SAFE DRIVING REMINDER: A Freeze watch remains in effect from late Friday night through Saturday morning.

The National Weather Service has issued the following warnings:

A FREEZE WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM LATE FRIDAY NIGHT THROUGH SATURDAY MORNING. TEMPERATURES ARE EXPECTED DROP INTO THE MID 20S TO AROUND 30 BY EARLY SATURDAY MORNING. TEMPERATURES WILL RECOVER INTO THE MID 30S BY THE MIDDLE OF THE MORNING.

The Napa Police Department is warning motorists to drive cautiously during this period of unusually cold weather. If possible, motorists should refrain from driving until the freeze warning expires.

If you must drive during the warning period, the Napa Police Department would like to remind motorists to drive carefully and be aware of where ice forms.

This is usually on overpasses, bridges, intersections and shady areas. Slow down and remain alert.

If the car hits a patch of black ice, remove pressure from the gas pedal and do not brake. Do not overcompensate with the steering wheel; rather, make small and slow adjustments. When the car regains traction, reduce speed and stay alert.

Do not rely too heavily on technology. Even if the automobile has four-wheel drive, new winter tires, electronic stability control and anti-lock brakes, good driving techniques still need to be employed.

Employing these safety techniques will assist the motoring public in helping to keep Napa a safer place to drive.
