Napa Police Use CHP Aircraft to Nail Suspected Domestic Abuser

A citizen's call about a man beating a woman in a car touched off a manhunt in Napa Thursday evening, according to police who said a CHP aircraft located the vehicle so officers could ,ake the arrest. Arrest information does not indicate a conviction.

 

Napa police called in air assistance from the California Highway Patrol to arrest a St. Helena man they said had been reported by a witness to have been beating a woman while driving through the city Thursday evening, according to a shift activity log from the :

On 06/21/12 about 1936 hours a citizen called Napa Dispatch to report a male hitting a female inside of a vehicle travelling in the area of Trancas St./Soscol Ave. The vehicle turned n/b onto Silverado Trail from Trancas St.

A CHP Airplane located the vehicle and vectored a CHP patrol unit into stop the vehicle. The vehicle stop was conducted in the 7800 block of Silverado Trail. An NPD Officer responded to the scene of the stop to conduct the investigation.

The Officer learned the male and female were in an argument. During the argument the suspect, Steven Crump 56 years old of St. Helena, hit the female twice causing a visible injury to her face.

Crump was placed under arrest for domestic violence and booked at the , police said. Arrest information does not indicate a conviction.
