Napa Police Rescue Threatened 'Jumper' From 1st Street Overpass

No charges filed against American Canyon man.

A 19-year-old American Canyon man was coaxed by Napa Police out of jumping off the First Street Bridge.

No charges were filed against the man, who was not identified.

According to police, the incident occurred at about 6:30 p.m. Monday. Officers
responded to the First Street overpass when multiple callers reported a subject looking like he was going to jump on the north side of the overpass.

Officers arrived and contacted the man, who made threats to jump if officers came any closer. As a result, southbound Highway 29 and eastbound and westbound traffic on First Street were shut down for a few minutes.

After several minutes of negotiation, the man complied with an officer’s instructions and he was taken into protective custody.

The man was transported to Napa County Department of Health and Human Services Crisis Center for assistance.
