Napa Police Log: Parking Dispute Gets Violent; Domestic Violence; Drugs

A dispute over parking on Menlo Avenue Monday afternoon led to the arrest of a Napa man for assault with a deadly weapon. Fernando Alvarez, 30, was arrested after he attempted to stab a neighbor through a screen door, according to the released by the Wednesday:

On 2-14-11 at approx 1200 hrs, Alvarez went over a neighbor's residence in the 1500 block of Menlo Ave and confronted the victim. Per the victim there has been a dispute over parking in the area. The dispute took place at the victim’s front door. During the argument, Alvarez produced a knife (and) tried to stab the victim thru the screen door. Alvarez fled the scene prior to police arrival. He was located several hours later, arrested and booked.

The log also includes two arrests for domestic violence, one in which suspect Gregory Rawlings, 36, of Napa was taken into custody on Fairfax Drive after police found that he had injured his victim, was on probation and had hypodermic syringes and a controlled substance.

The other domestic-violence arrest on the log, dated Feb. 11, was a repeat offense for 42-year-old Thomas Gunsalus: Released from jail Feb. 10 after a previous assault on his victim, Gunsalus entered her E Street home the next day and threatened to kill her if she didn't withdraw her statement to police. Acccording to the log, "they argued, the suspect threw the victim down on the floor and left. Officers located Gunsalus at his residence and he was arrested."

Also on the log: At an unspecified time Tuesday, Napa police arrested 30-year-old Napa resident Osvaldo Segura Arriola, who was wanted on a warrant when police stopped a car he was riding in near Lincoln Avenue and California Boulevard and and found a controlled substance near where he had been sitting.
