Napa Police Log: Arrests May 27-29

The following arrest information was supplied by the Napa Police Department. It does not indicate convictions.

A Napa man went to jail early Sunday morning on suspicion of trespassing, violation of probation and elder abuse, according to a shift activity log released Sunday by the Napa Police Department.

Napa Police officers went to a home on the 1800 block of Main Street in response to a call about a man screaming and cursing in the yard of the residence. Police located Eric Anderson, 44, a transient, at the home of his relative and discovered that he had once been arrested at the home previously, according to police. Anderson’s presence caused the relative to feel threatened, police said.

Police discovered that Anderson was on probation at the time of his arrest and took him to jail, according to the log.

Disturbance at Redwood Credit Union Leads to Arrest

An argument between a man and woman inside a Napa bank led to the arrest of the man on suspicion of threatening a police officer, drunk in public and resisting arrest Saturday afternoon.

Napa Police officers went to Redwood Credit Union on First Street at 2:50 p.m., in response to an argument between a man and a woman and discovered that the man, Matthew Zerba, 42, left the bank and returned to his home on 1900 block of Stockton Street.

Police went to the home to conduct a check on Zerba and found him at the back door of the residence. Police said Zerba took a fighting stance with them during the contact and threatened them. As the officers took Zerba into custody, he resisted arrest according to police.

Zerba was taken to for an injury to his nose sustained during the arrest and subsequently taken to jail on suspicion of the aforementioned charges. 

Fraudulent Use of Welfare Card

Two Napa transients went to jail Friday after allegedly using someone else’s welfare card fraudulently.

Police contacted Gary Smallwood, 47, and Stephanie Quigley, 23, on the 900 block of Trancas Street at 12:21 p.m. During a consent search of Quigley the officers found a welfare card that didn’t belong to either of them, police said.

According to police, both Smallwood, who is on parole, and Quigley admitted to police that they used the card. They were both taken to jail.

Possession of a Deadly Weapon, Violation of Court Order

A Napa man went to jail Friday night on suspicion of possession of a deadly weapon and violation of a domestic violence protective court order.

Police said that Manuel Cases Ochoa, 47, of Napa, threatened to assault his ex-wife’s current boyfriend and sent harassing text messages to her, which is in violation of a restraining order that was placed on him.

Police went to Ochoa’s home on the 2400 block of Elm Street at 7:30 p.m., and he consented to a search of his room and vehicle. During the search, police found a shotgun that had been illegally modified with a shortened barrel. Ochoa was taken to jail.
