Napa Police: Gang Member, 14, Tasered, Arrested on Broadmoor

The same day he was released from the Napa County Juvenile Justice Center, a 14-year-old Napa boy was returned to custody after an off-duty officer found him hiding behind a house in Browns Valley, Napa police said.

A 14-year-old Napa gang member was arrested Thursday at about 10:10 p.m. on suspicion of resisting arrest, prowling, being drunk in public and violating juvenile probation, according to an arrest summary from the City of Napa Police Department:

A Vallejo Police Department K-9 officer was driving home from work, in a marked Vallejo Police Department patrol car, in the area of Broadmoor Dr. and Partrick Dr.

At this time he saw a subject hide in some bushes behind a fence. NPD officers arrived on scene and located the subject wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt (hood on) hiding in the dark within some bushes behind a small fence in the yard of a residence in the 1000 block of Broadmoor Dr.

The subject was given numerous commands to show his hands and he did not comply or respond, which resulted in the officers taking the subject to ground.

While on the ground, the subject kept his hands tightly under his body. The officers gave several commands for the subject to put his hands out to the side, but he continued not to comply or respond.

A Taser was deployed that resulted in the subject removing his hand from under his body, which allowed officers to handcuff him and take him into custody.

Once the subject was removed from the bushes, officers recognized him as a 14 year old male juvenile who is a documented gang member. This subject was also intoxicated and found to be on juvenile probation.

Officers also learned that the juvenile was just released from juvenile hall earlier in the day. The juvenile was taken to Queen of the Valley Medical Center for a complaint of pain. He was treated, released and transported to juvenile hall where he was booked.

Earlier Thursday, at about 6:50 p.m., Napa police arrested another Napa teen on suspicion of burglary, according to an arrest summary:

A Napa Police Officer was assisting a Napa Sheriff’s Deputy at Val’s Liquor on Soscol Ave. with a stolen vehicle investigation.

At this same time a 15 year old male juvenile took a $400 smoking device from the smoke shop next door (Mighty Quinn) and ran from the store.

Officers were alerted to this and caught the juvenile as he attempted to jump over a fence. The juvenile was taken into custody and booked at juvenile hall.

Arrest information does not indicate convictions. For the latest reports on crime and arrests in the Napa Valley, please see our Police & Fire section, available from the News tab above and at napavalley.patch.com/police-fire.

Is there a curfew for minors out in Napa, or a curfew for juveniles on probation? I can't seem to find anything online.
Louisa Hufstader (Editor) January 4, 2013 at 08:36 pm
11 p.m. to daylight, with some exceptions, according to this website from a legal publisher that aggregates municipal codes: http://search.municode.com/html/16513/level2/TIT9PUPEMOWE_CH9.08CUMI.html Juveniles on probation might get an earlier hour stipulated as part of their terms.

Napa City has a 10pm curfew.

Thanks Louisa!

so much crime in Napa in the recent years....it's a shame. Napa is not Napa as it was when we grew up.
Karen Lucia January 7, 2013 at 05:32 pm
Do you really think Curfew is an issue here? Obviously parents do not have control on these kids, and don't even know what a curfew is. Ifa kid is stealing a $400 bong at a smoke shop, do you think curfew is something that really needs to be mentioned? People, wake up...dont let Napa turn into a town like some other local towns within a 30 minute drive....And the Napa Police, Sherriff's department needs to start patrolling more, rather than waiting for a call to come in from a disturbance...time to wake up Napa!

A CHILD had a taser used against him FOUR TMES by adult police officers and you guys are worried about curfew?? I know this child's family, you guys do not know his history. So before pointing fingers at the parents, maybe you should be asking if the child needs some help? Do the parent's need help with this CHILD? People are so fast to point fingers before asking questions.

What is with 14 Year old punks not doing what the cops say? Trayvon Martin did the same, This Napa punk is lucky to have not been shot.
MICHAEL P WILSON "Independent Kid" January 12, 2013 at 02:27 pm
Wendy this "child" needs Jail. The good news is, he will make his way to prison at some point. Also the geniuses at the CA supreme court. Have ruled that Gang ties can not be considered, when a suspected Gang member commits a crime alone.
wendy January 12, 2013 at 06:13 pm
He is NOT a gang member. He is just one of those kids who think being in one would be cool.He has never been in one.He has been in Juvi,Juvi sucks most of the time.I have dealt with that system but it worked for my son and he turned around. This kid here needs INTENSE thereapy and a group home for children like him who need structure and guidance and STRICT rules.Again BTDT with my son and it ALL worked for him.Ready to throw a kid under the bus just because he is not perfect? Or because he does not fit in your mold? No child is perfect and no matter how much a parent tries their hardest to raise their kids a certain way, they do not always follow the rules etc.

Is there any way to remove the blogs from the news page? Blogs are not news. They are opinionRead More pieces, and I would like more news. thanks!
Keri Brenner (Editor) June 17, 2013 at 05:41 pm
Hi Beau and F: Yes, the &#39 are still there and not going away. I trust that tech people areRead More working on this...Sorry. And as far as the blogs being on the news stream, I can't change that except to keep the blogs mostly at the bottom and the news on top. The new platform is designed to highlight the blogs more than they were before. Occasionally if there is a timely, useful or highly newsworthy blog post I will move it up, but in general the news will be in the first 5 slots and the blog below. Hope that helps. Keri

It is easy to judge people from a distance. All of us have up and down times in life, none of usRead More have the same internal or external supports to deal with it all. Maybe those among us who feel superior could try to take a moment or more to see life from the perspective of someone who (even from a position of pain or vulnerability) has too much pride to accept the stigma of being in need of the social translation of "the lowest of the low" homeless shelter or addiction counseling. It feels good to try lifting others up rather than tearing them down; Maybe your smile or expression of something other than disgust could make a positive difference to move a person in need toward help.

I'd like to show appreciation to my grandfather on Father's Day. He taught me how to cook a roast,Read More garden, work with tools, use a shotgun and appreciate our surrounding waters. Always a patient man, my grandfather showed me so much. I got scared once when I broke a tool when we were building a skateboard ramp. He just replied with, at least you know not to do that anymore. I always admired how my grandfather loves my grandmother so much. That's old, true love. Fairy tail kinda stuff. Love we all want to grow old with. I love my grandpa with all my heart.

Hi Loui Loui: Your grandpa sounds wonderful!

Loui Loui, it's called false pretenses and misleading claims. While I understand it's not theRead More editor's or tech's fault, releasing a product to the public as "New with better features!" shouldn't mean that it comes with glitches, bugs and frustration. And unlike Google+ and FB, Napa Valley Patch didn't "come out", we had a NVP that was working perfectly fine and Corporate Patch decided to upgrade. Can you imagine the ether-riots if FB did an "upgrade" full of glitches and bugs"?
Unfiltered Steve Simoneau June 13, 2013 at 10:54 pm
Actually, Loui, I left FB two years ago and haven't been back since. And while Patch and FB may beRead More "free" services they rely on users to exist. It's a symbiotic relationship, so both sides must be content for it to work efficiently.

Why the Hispanics need their own Chambers Of Commerce is a mystery to me. Racism is the promotion ofRead More one race above others. If I supported a White/Caucasian Chamber Of Commerce I'd be labeled a bigot and racist. One Chamber Of Commerce should suffice for ALL!
