UPDATE: One Man Injured in 4-Car Pileup on Highway 29

Accident sends car through a chain-link fence and onto Napa Valley Wine Train tracks.

UPDATED: 11:30 a.m. Thursday, April 4, 2013.

Multiple car crashes in North Napa and Upvalley and mudslides near Lake Berryessa are tying up traffic this morning.

"I think it's safe to say that the rain is causing problems," said California Highway Patrol Officer Jake Ramos. "Some people may be driving too fast for the road conditions."

Napa Police said two accidents on Highway 29 -- one at Trower, and the other at Salvador -- had been cleared just before 9 a.m., police said.

Police said a 60-year-old man complained of pain after the four-car crash at Trower Street and was transported to Queen of the Valley Medical Center.

One car in that accident broke through a chain link fence and ended up on the Napa Valley Wine Train tracks. One of the tracks was said to have been damaged in that incident.

Meanwhile, Ramos said a Prius went over an embankment at Petrified Forest Road and Franz Valley Road near Calistoga at about 7:50 a.m. Ramos said there were no injuries in that incident.

At Lake Berryessa, Caltrans scraper trucks were on the way to clear slides of shale rock that were on the roadways. Ramos said the slides were reported at 8:30 a.m.
