Napa Man, Rohnert Park Woman Accused of Driving Around Drunk at 3 A.M. With Toddler in Back Seat

The pair were arrested on alcohol-related charges Thursday at 3:20 a.m. on Highway 101.

Two people in the same vehicle with a child were arrested on alcohol intoxication charges in Rohnert Park early this morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.

CHP officers saw a Ford Explorer parked on the right shoulder of U.S. Highway 101 near the Rohnert Park Expressway around 3:20 a.m., CHP Officer Jon Sloat said.

The driver, Mayra Ponce, 24, of Rohnert Park, said she was arguing with Edgar Sanchez, 22, of Napa, who was slumped over in the right front seat.

When Ponce showed the officers a can of beer she was drinking, she was arrested on suspicion of DUI, Sloat said.

The officers asked Sanchez, who appeared extremely intoxicated, if there was someone he could call to pick up him and Ponce's 2-year-old son in the back seat, Sloat said.

Sanchez argued with the officers about Ponce's arrest and insisted he could drive. He refused to call for a ride and was then arrested on suspicion of public intoxication, Sloat said.

Ponce was booked into Sonoma County Jail on suspicion of DUI and child endangerment and the child was released to a family friend, according to Sloat.
