Napa Man Jailed after Benicia Shooting Report

An 18-year-old Napa woman turned in a revolver and told Benicia police she and her 2-year-old daughter were inside a Cadillac with her boyfriend while he was shooting the weapon Tuesday night. Arrest information does not indicate a conviction.

 

An 20-year-old Napa man was arrested at his Trancas Street apartment early Wednesday morning on suspicion of discharging a firearm with gross negligence and child endangerment, according to a press release from the Benicia Police Department:

On May 8, 2012 at approximately 8:50 p.m., the Benicia Police Department received a 911 call of someone shooting a gun from a white in color, motor vehicle in the 1300 block of Southampton Road. The witness stated the responsible drove away on Southampton Road. Benicia PD officers checked the area for the responsible and vehicle and were unable to locate either. Another witness came forward and also reported hearing three gun shots from the immediate area prior to the police arriving.

Approximately an hour and a half later, a female witness came to the Benicia Police Department and reported that she was a passenger in the vehicle in which the driver had fired a gun from inside. 

The witness, an 18-year-old Napa resident, reported her boyfriend was the responsible who fired the gun out the car window. The witness informed BPD officers that the firearm was in the trunk of the vehicle she was driving. The vehicle is a 2000 Cadillac, white in color.

BPD officers recovered a Ruger .357 caliber revolver from the trunk of the vehicle. The female witness informed officers that her 2-year-old daughter was in the vehicle when the gun was fired.

At approximately 12:30 a.m. on the morning of May 9, Benicia PD officers, with assistance from officers from the , drove to an apartment in the 700 block of Trancas Street in the City of Napa, and contacted Jose F. Nava.  Nava was arrested and transported back to the Benicia PD for investigation.

Nava was subsequently booked at the Solano County Jail in Fairfield, according to Benicia Police Lt. Frank Hartig. Arrest information does not indicate a conviction.
