A Sonoma man walking in a bicycle lane was killed this afternoon when he was struck by a vehicle, the California Highway Patrol said.
The pedestrian's name and age were not released.
Thornton Bunch Jr., 74, of Napa, was driving a 2004 Toyota Prius north on Arnold Drive south of Grove Street in unincorporated Sonoma County near Sonoma around 3 p.m., CHP Officer Garrett Ray said.
For some reason Bunch allowed the Toyota to travel into the bike lane and struck the pedestrian who was pronounced dead at the scene, Ray said.
The CHP closed Arnold Drive between Grove and Center streets and diverted traffic around the scene, Ray said.
The cause of the collision is under investigation, Ray said.
