Firefighters from across the Bay Area and California are in Lake County today, where two separate grass fires continue to burn thousands of acres and threaten hundreds of homes, Cal Fire officials said.

The Wye Fire, in the area of state Highways 20 and 53, had burned 3,000 acres as of 11 a.m. and prompted the evacuation of about 500 homes in the Spring Valley area, Cal Fire spokesman Daniel Berlant said.

Midday, the fire was about 25 percent contained, but triple-digit temperatures forecast for today made it a possibility that the fire could continue to grow, Berlant said.

The fire has destroyed three structures.

The Walker Fire, burning near state Highway 20 and Walker Ridge along the Colusa County border, has charred about 2,000 acres of remote terrain, Berlant said.

No homes were threatened by that blaze, though a resort at Wilbur Hot Springs was evacuated.

The Walker Fire was about 30 percent contained around noon, according to Cal Fire.

More than 400 firefighters from fire departments across California have responded, and hundreds more are expected to arrive today, he said.
