Napa man was detained for a mere bicycling violation, and it went downhill from there.

A Napa man, 41, was stopped last week on Kilburn Avenue by Napa Police Department officers for reportedly riding a bicycle while texting.

Stopped for the violation at 7:14 p.m. on Kilburn at Freeway Drive, Luis Alberto Ayala also allegedly strongly smelled of marijuana , police said -- which led to a search of his bike's basket, where they discovered a small baggie of suspected methamphetamine and a glass meth-smoking  pipe.

Officers also located a small amount of suspected marijuana in Ayala’s pants pocket, police said.

Ayala was arrested for suspicion of  felony possession of a controlled substance and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.
