Mass-Casualty Drill at Napa Valley College Friday
Overturned cars in the parking lot and helicopters on the ballfields are all part of the exercise as EMTs in training work with local paramedics.
Friday the 13th may appear unluckier than it really is at , according to an alert message circulated Thursday afternoon from college Dean of Health Occupations Kate Benscoter:
This Friday, May 13, our Emergency Medical Services (EMS) program is having a Mass Casualty Incident (MCI) drill on campus.
There will be overturned cars in the Ballfield Lot and ambulances transporting "patients" to makeshift Emergency Departments (a large tent) and also to our Skills Lab in the 800 building. Two helicopters will be landing in the athletic fields. The drill will be confined to the areas around the athletic fields and the 800 and 1000 buildings.

The volunteer "patients," including some children, will be made up to appear injured.
The drill allows practicing Paramedics and EMTs to meet required competencies while pairing our Paramedic and EMT students with them for their learning. Many of our other Health Occupations students will be here as observers and helpers.

The MCI drill is the result of cooperation of many agencies in our area donating time and equipment.
In an email, Cathy Pridmore of the Health Occupations department said the drill will commence at 10 a.m., following an 8 a.m. presentation in the college's Little Theater, and the helicopters will be arriving at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.
