Man Sent to Hospital After 3-Car Crash on Hwy. 29

Accident closes Hwy. 29 for two hours.

A 23-year-old Vallejo man suffered major injuries in a three-car accident at 1:40 a.m. Thursday on state Highway 29 near South Kelly Road.

Adrian Rodriguez was transported to Queen of the Valley by AMR ground ambulance, according to the California Highway Patrol. Highway 29 was closed for two hours and traffic was diverted using South Kelly Road.

According to the CHP report, Rodriguez, driving a 1998 Chevy Silverado, was traveling southbound on Highway 29 approaching South Kelly Road. He drifted west off the oradway and struck a wood and metal guardrail.

Rodriguez then steered hard to the left and lost control of his car. The Silverado then traveled through a metal cyclone fence and overturned, coming to rest on its wheels blocking the northbound number 1 lane, and partially blocking the number 2 lane.

Rodriguez was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the car, sustaining major injuries.

Rodriguez's vehicle was left on the road without lights on a stretch of the road that has no lights, the CHP said.

A 2001 Chevy driven by Ernie English, 56, of San Francisco was traveling northbound in the number 2 lane and approached Rodriguez's disabled vehicle. He was unable to react in time to avoid striking the car.

English stopped his car on the shoulder and began to call 911. At the same time, David Perez-Carranza, also traveling northbound in the number 1 lane, struck both Rodriguez and his car.

Alcohol is suspected to be a factor in this crash, the CHP said.
