Man Arrested on Drunken Driving Charges After Crashing into Tree Thursday Night

Suspect was injured and was taken to a hospital by helicopter.

A Clearlake Oaks man was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving Thursday night after he crashed his Nissan pickup truck into a tree on State Route 29 near Lawley Road.

According to the California Highway Patrol, 49-year-old John Nitchman was driving his 1997 Nissan pickup southbound when he crossed into the northbound lane and onto the east shoulder of SR-29, hitting a tree.

He was taken by ambulance to the softball fields in Calistoga then transported by helicopter to Queen of the Valley Hospital to be treated for moderate injuries.
