Law enforcement in Napa conducted a DUI and driver's license checkpoint Saturday and made two arrests, police said.
As part of the Avoid the 9 program, officers were stationed in the 900 block of Trancas Street in Napa from 6 p.m. to midnight, and witnessed roughly 980 cars pass through the checkpoint, according to police.
Five drivers were evaluated for driving under the influence of alcohol, police said.
Two of those drivers were arrested for DUI, according to police. One driver was driving with a suspended license and that person's car was impounded for 30 days, police said.
Five additional drivers were cited for driving without a valid driver's license.
A known gang member, Jesus Avalos, 21, was riding in the passenger
seat of a car that was stopped during the checkpoint, police said.
Avalos was found to be in violation of his probation and was determined to be under the influence of marijuana, police said.
He was arrested and booked into county jail.
