K-9 Sniffs Out Handgun After Robbery, Napa Police Say

Napa police dog Ringo located the weapon allegedly discarded by a man arrested after a reported armed robbery on the Silverado Trail Saturday night, according to police. Arrest information does not indicate a conviction.

After allegedly mugging another man at gunpoint on the Silverado Trail, a 26-year-old man was arrested Saturday night on suspicion of  robbery, concealing a weapon, being a convicted felon with a weapon and resisting an officer, according to an arrest summary from the City of Napa Police Department:

On 1/19/2013 at about 2000hrs, a male subject was confronted by Mathew Steven Luna on Silverado Trail south of Lincoln Ave.

Luna demanded property from the victim but the victim refused. Luna produced a handgun and pointed it at the victim.

The victim feared for his safety and gave Luna his cellular phone. The victim flagged down a car for help. Luna dropped the victim’s cellular phone and ran from the area.

Officers, who were responding to the area, located Luna in the area of Lincoln and Jordan Lane. Luna ran from officers but was apprehended in the 500 block of Lincoln Ave.

Police K9 Ringo was utilized at the scene. The K9 conducted an evidence search of the area that Luna had been seen and located the .25 auto handgun Luna had discarded as well as other evidence linking Luna to the robbery.
