Inmate Dies After Suffering Seizure

Admits to drinking alcohol and being under influence of marijuana when booked into Napa County Jail; Investigation ongoing

 

A Napa County Jail inmate who suffered a seizure Sunday died the next day at Queen of the Valley Medical Center, a county sheriff's captain said today.

Brandon Whiteley, 25, of Napa, was arrested around 11 p.m. Saturday after a fight in the 700 block of Lincoln Avenue in Napa, Capt. Leroy Anderson said.

During his booking into the jail for resisting arrest, he admitted he had been drinking and smoking synthetic marijuana, Anderson said.

While Whiteley was being taken to be fingerprinted around 4 a.m. Sunday, he suffered a seizure and jail staff called emergency responders, Anderson said.

He was resuscitated in the ambulance and was admitted to the intensive care unit at the hospital in Napa, where he died at about 5 p.m. Monday, Anderson said.

An autopsy is scheduled for Thursday, and toxicology tests will be conducted, Anderson said.

The Napa County Sheriff's Office is investigating the death.
