UPDATE: Calistoga Remains ID'd as Male, Tentative Identification Made

UPDATE: The remains that were found on December 18, 2012, are male and have been tentatively identified. The identity will not be released until next week, after the identity has been confirmed by a second Evidence Specialist and the family has been notified. The tentative ID is based largely on a fingerprint match.

An autopsy was performed today, but at this time, we do not have a cause of death.

ORIGINAL ARTICLE: The Napa County Sheriff’s Office has determined the human remains found Tuesday afternoon in a Calistoga vineyard is not that of a child, Sheriff’s Capt. Tracey Stuart said yesterday. Nor is it clear if it is a man or a woman.

“That’s about all of the new information I have at this time,” Stuart said, adding that investigators and evidence techs have been at the scene since early Wednesday morning, the day after the body was discovered.

The skeletal remains were discovered in a creek bed at Kennewick Ranch in the 700 block of Silverado Trail, near Brannon Street, by a vineyard worker around 1:30 p.m., Tuesday.

The body was taken to the coroner's office on Wednesday afternoon, Capt. Stuart said. The Napa County coroner's office hopes to perform an autopsy Friday on the human remains.

The sheriff's office is compiling missing-person reports from nearby law enforcement agencies as part of the investigation, Stuart said. It is unknown how long the body had been there, Stuart said.
