Guns, Other Antiques Lost in Fire

The sound of exploding ammunition could be heard from within the house on Redwood Road as it burned Tuesday night. The cause of the blaze is under investigation.

The resident of the home on Redwood Road that suffered at least $ last night also lost a collection of guns and other antiques, according to Napa photojournalist Robert Peebles, Jr.

"You could hear bullets exploding in the fire," said Peebles, who shot several dramatic photos as firefighters worked to put out the blaze.

The resident told Peebles she escaped her home when a smoke alarm alerted her around 9 p.m.

"The first thing she saw was fire coming through the roof," Peebles said.

By the time firefighters arrived, Peebles continued, the flames were spreading to the second floor of the home. The fire continued to spread to the first floor, wiping out much of the contents of the woman's home.

She told Peebles she had a "huge" antique gun collection, among many other collectibles, he said.

"She lost a lot of stuff."
