Fire Damages Napa Home, Boat

A resident escapes, but pet cat dies.

A Napa home was damaged and the resident's pet cat died in a fire this morning in the 1400 block of Perkins Street in South Napa, witnesses said.

Fire crews were still at the scene this afternoon and could not be reached for comment on either the cause of the fire or for an estimate on damages.

Witnesses said the fire started around 11 a.m., possibly in the garage, and appeared to spread through the attic to the rest of the home.

A resident who was home at the time escaped, the witness said. A pet cat was rescued from inside the home by firefighters, but resuscitation attempts done on the front yard were unsuccessful and the cat died, the witness said.

There was no report of fire spreading to neighboring homes.
