Fire Damage Estimate Upped to $700,000

A in unincorporated Napa County east of the city of Napa Thursday night is still under investigation, CalFire Capt. Tom Knecht said Friday afternoon.

The fire in the 2,000-square-foot residence in the 1000 block of Mustang Road was reported at 9:41 p.m. and was controlled at 6:30 a.m. Friday, Knecht said.

Damage is estimated at $700,000, up from Friday's initial estimate.

An elderly man was able to get out of the house safely and there were no injuries to firefighters, Cal Fire spokeswoman Jennifer Neal said.

Explosive material in the garage presented a slight hazard and hampered firefighters, Knecht said.

The house was well involved in flames when fire crews arrived and they went into defensive mode, Knecht said.

Thirty-five firefighters from Cal Fire-Napa County Fire, American Canyon, St. Helena and responded to the blaze.
