UPDATE: CHP ID's Woman Hurt in Rollover Crash on Silverado Trail

Driver was a 80-year-old Calistoga woman.

UPDATE: Thursday, Oct. 17, 2013, 5 p.m.

The woman in the solo vehicle crash on Silverado Trail earlier today has been identified as Doris Joan Violet Fox, 80, of Calistoga, the California Highway Patrol said.

Fox was incorrectly described by the CHP earlier as being from Lower Lake.

According to CHP Napa spokeswoman Anna Paulson, Fox was driving her 2006 Chevy Impala four-door, northbound on Silverado Trail approaching 7400 Silverado Trail at about 12:15 p.m.

For unknown reasons she allowed her vehicle to leave the east roadway edge traveling onto the dirt grass shoulder where it traveled out-of-control rolling over and coming to rest just north of the driveway to 7400 Silverado Trail.

Fox suffered moderate injuries and was transported to Queen of the Valley Hospital by AMR ground ambulance, Paulson said.

Any witnesses to this traffic collision are encouraged to contact the Napa CHP at (707) 253-4906.

An elderly Lower Lake woman was injured today when the car she was driving drifted off the road, struck two large rocks and rolled over along northbound Silverado Trail at the Vine Cliff Winery between Yountville Cross Road and Oakville Cross Road.

California Highway Patrol Officer Marc Renspurger said the woman, whose name was being withheld pending medical clearance, was transported by ground ambulance to Queen of the Valley Medical Center. She did not appear to be seriously injured, Renspurger said, but he said he would wait for the hospital report before releasing her name.

The solo vehicle crash took place just after noon Thursday. It appeared that the 2006 Chevrolet Impala drifted off the road and struck a very large rock at the southern side of the driveway leading into Vine Cliff Winery, Renspurger said.

Then, the car apparently struck a second boulder on the north side of the driveway, causing it to roll over and come to rest near a grove of trees.

"It's good luck that it didn't hit a tree," Renspurger said.

Rob, the winery manager, said the curve on Silverado Trail just before the winery entrance comes up unexpectedly and there have been several bad accidents there over the years.

"She went flying through here at full speed, it looks like," said Rob, who declined to give his last name. "It's a bad curve -- this whole road (Silverado Trail) is dangerous, but this turn is pretty bad."

Renspurger said he had no word yet on whether drugs, alcohol or speeding were involved in the crash, which is under investigation.

He said it was first called out on dispatch as a car fire, triggering engine responses from Napa County Fire, Cal Fire Yountville Station 12 and a battalion chief unit.

"But nothing was burning," Renspurger said. "It was probably just the dust being kicked up that looked like smoke."
