DUI Driver Arrested After Evading Deputy, Crashing Into House, Car Near Boyes Hot Springs

A DUI driver was arrested on Monday night following a vehicle chase that ended when he crashed into a vehicle and a house near Boyes Hot Springs in unincorporated Sonoma County, sheriff's deputies said.

At about 11 p.m. on Memorial Day, a deputy on patrol in the vicinity of Boyes Boulevard and Riverside Drive observed a blue Ford Taurus traveling towards him on Boyes Boulevard, according to the sheriff's office.

The deputy watched the driver run a stop sign and then make a left turn onto Riverside Drive.

The deputy turned onto Riverside Drive with the intent of pulling the driver over for the violation. However, the suspect vehicle had sped up and the deputy estimated it was traveling approximately 50 mph in a 25 mph zone in a residential neighborhood.

The deputy activated his emergency lights to make a traffic stop on the driver, but the suspect vehicle blew through yet another stop sign at Cherry Avenue, sheriff's officials said.

The pursuit quickly came to an end when the driver of the suspect vehicle failed to negotiate a turn on Riverside Drive, causing his vehicle to leave the roadway and crash into a parked car and the front porch of a house.

The crash damaged the parked car and the porch, deputies said. A subsequent search of the suspect vehicle revealed open containers of alcohol, sheriff's officials said.

The driver, identified as 23-year-old Fabian Francisco Martinez, of Boyes Hot Springs, was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving and felony evasion.

A passenger in the car, 20-year-old Francisco Perez, of El Verano, was cited for violation of probation, according to the sheriff's office.
