DUI Blamed in Injury Crashes, Napa Police Say
One 23-year-old motorist flipped his vehicle onto the Wine Train tracks early Monday; the other, 24, was arrested at the hospital where he had been taken with his two injured passengers, police said.
Two early-morning crashes Monday sent five people to the hospital and one driver to jail, while the other driver was cited on suspicion of driving under the influence and hit and run, according to incident summaries from the City of Napa Police Department.
The first collision came less than an hour into the new day, police said:
On 1-21-13 NPD Officers responded to a reported vehicle roll over in the 3400 block of Solano Ave. Officers located an unoccupied vehicle with major damage on the railroad tracks.

Numerous RP’s reported seeing subjects running from the vehicle westbound. Officers checked the area and located two subjects from the vehicle in the north field of Redwood Middle School.
The driver, Craig Jay Sickler (DOB 1-11-90, a Napa resident) was bleeding from the back of his head and was transported to QVMC by AMR. The passenger did not appear to be injured but was also transported to the QVMC to be checked.

Sickler, 23, admitted to driving his vehicle and running from it after the accident, as well as to consuming alcohol, police said.
In addition to "objective signs of intoxication (red watery eyes, odor of alcohol)," the summary continues, Sickler submitted to a blood test that showed his alcohol level as .07. He was cited at the Queen on suspicion of DUI and hit and run and released, police said.
The second crash came shortly after 3 a.m. and involved a 24-year-old driver, police said:
On 1-21-13 NPD Officers responded to the 100 block of South Coombs Street on report of suspicious activity.
Upon arrival Officers discovered three subjects sitting outside their car which had major body damage. The driver was identified as Alfonso Santos Gonzales (DOB 7-17-88 a Citrus Heights resident).
The female passenger had lacerations to her head and was bleeding. The male passenger had injuries to his face and was bleeding.
The driver did not appear to have any injuries and had objective signs of intoxication (odor of alcohol, unsteady on his feet, slurred speech). He performed several FST’s and submitted to a PAS (.176/ .176 BAC).
The driver and passengers were all transported to the QVMC by AMR.
Officers located a parked truck down the street which appeared to have been struck by the car.
After he was medically cleared at the hospital, Gonzales was booked at the Napa County Department of Corrections on suspicion of DUI, police said.
Arrest information does not indicate convictions.
