Driver Suffers Major Injuries in Hit-and-Run on Silverado Trail

Fairfield man taken to Queen of the Valley Medical Center with major injuries.

A Fairfield man suffered major injuries Saturday after the car he was driving crashed into a second car turning into Clos Du Val Winery on Silverado Trail.

California Highway Patrol spokeswoman Anna Paulson said Armando Nunez-Salgado, 35, was driving southbound on the Silverado Trail just north of Oak Knoll Avenue at about 4:30 p.m. when his green Chevy S10 pick-up truck approached the rear of a 2006 Acura TL driven by Lacey Elizabeth McIntire-Campbell, 27, of Santa Rosa.

McIntire-Campbell's Acura was in the left lane turn pocket, preparing to make a left turn into Clos Du Val Winery at the time of the crash.

Nunez-Salgado attempted to pass McIntire-Campbell over solid double yellow lines, Paulson said. As he did this, the right front of the pick-up hit the left front of the Acura. The impact caused the pickup to travel out of control where it collided into a pole on the right shoulder of northbound Silverado Trail north of Oak Knoll.

The impact with the power pole then caused the pick-up to roll over several times before coming to rest.  Once the truck came to rest, Nunez-Salgado exited the truck and fled the scene but was apprehended by members of the Napa County Sheriff Office, Napa CHP and Napa Police Department.

Paulson said the incident actually started just before 4:30 p.m. when a citizen reported to CHP dispatch that a green Chevy S10 pick-up truck was driving recklessly southbound on Silverado Trail at Skellinger Lane.

Members of the Napa County Sheriff's Department observed this vehicle traveling southbound north of Oak Knoll Avenue, Paulson said.

The driver of the Chevy S10 pick-up, later identified as Nunez-Salgado, was involved in a brief failure-to-yield with the Napa County Sheriff's Department, who will be handling the failure-to-yield portion of this investigation.

After the collision, Nunez-Salgado was transported to Queen of the Valley Medical Center by AMR ambulance with major injuries.  CHP will be investigating felony hit and run involving injury and evading and resisting arrest, Paulson said.

McIntire-Campbell sustained minor injuries and was not transported.  McIntire-Campbell's two passengers were uninjured.

This newly released information apparently replaces an earlier version of the incident which was then reported as a crash on Highway 29 and a foot chase through a vineyard.
