Vallejo Man Arrested on Suspicion of Domestic Violence

New charges added after alleged threatening phone call from jail.

A 45-year-old Vallejo man was arrested Monday by Napa Police on suspicion of domestic violence.

Israel Medina was taken into custody just before 8 a.m. on the domestic violence charge in the vicinity of Lexington Court and Shurtleff Avenue in Napa.

Additional charges of violating a court order to prevent domestic violence and threatening with intent to terrorize were later Monday after Medina allegedly made a call to the same victim, his ex-wife, from jail.

According to the police log, officers were dispatched to a report of a domestic violence dispute at Shurtleff Avenue and Lexington Court.

The reporting party had witnessed the incident and the male suspect had left the scene in a black Chevy Tahoe. Upon arrival, officers contacted the female victim, who stated she had been assaulted by her ex-husband, later identified as Medina.

The woman further stated that Medina arrived at the Shurtleff Avenue and Lexington Court location because he knows the victim works in the area. Medina told the woman he was looking for her and began using profanities toward her.

Medina allegedly grabbed the woman with his left hand by the blouse as he held a cigarette in his right hand. He then allegedly took the cigarette and burned the victim on the cheek. Israel then allegedly struck the victim with a closed right fist in the face, police said.

During the physical altercation, the reporting party showed up and asked Median to stop hitting the victim, police said. Medina stopped and asked the reporting party not to call the police. He then fled the scene in his black Chevy Tahoe.

The woman’s injuries were visible to the officers, but did not require immediate medical attention. An officer contacted Medina, via telephone, and asked him to come to the Napa Police Department. Medina agreed and showed up a short time later.

He was taken into custody and served with an emergency restraining order that directed him not to contact the woman.

Medina was booked at the Napa County Department of Corrections for domestic violence.

At approximately 1 p.m., an officer was contacted by the victim at the Napa Police Department regarding a telephone call she received from Medina The victim showed the officer her cellular phone, which showed a phone number that came back to Napa County Department of Corrections.

The call was made at 11:06 a.m. The victim stated Medina had called her and said "I`m going to kill you and him."

The victim stated she was fearful that Medina would carry out his threat if he was released from jail.

Additional charges of violation of a domestic restraining order and criminal threats were filed against Medina.
