Law enforcement converged on Trancas Street at the Napa River just after noon Monday to search for a suspect who bailed from his car after leading police on a chase through north Napa.
The string of events started when police were chasing a suspected shoplifter in a red Toyota sedan at Trancas Street and Jefferson Avenue, according to the Napa County Sheriff’s Office.
The driver crashed into a vehicle at that intersection and continued southbound on Jefferson with police patrol cars in pursuit.
From Jefferson, the suspect made a left onto Pueblo Avenue, continuing down the street to Soscol Avenue where the driver headed north to Old Soscol Avenue.
The Toyota came to an abrupt stop after slamming into either a parked vehicle or the guard rail at the corner of Trancas and Old Soscol Avenue at the Napa River.
The driver fled the vehicle toward the river. Napa police, sheriff’s deputies, a K-9 unit and the CHP helicopter joined in the search.
The Toyota had been stolen, Napa police said.

As a Napa native and a resident of Vallejo it is somewhat frightening to read about so much crime taking place in my home town. My husband and I are trying desperately to find an affordable, clean, and well maintained home to rent to in Napa, knowing full well that we don't have to bolt ourselves in at all times of the day and night, but now I wonder if we will have the same concerns again. Benicia is feeling the trickle of crime from Vallejo and it's sad to think that Napa is as well. :(

I even lock my 15-year-old bicycle, because my heart would just about break if it were stolen.
