Cigarette-Buying Woman Jailed for Grand Theft
She reportedly used fraudulent gift cards to stock up on thousands of dollars worth of smokes, according to Napa police. Arrest information does not indicate a conviction.
A 20-year-old Richmond woman was arrested Thursday on grand theft and burglary charges after she was identified as the suspect in a fraudulent purchase of cigarettes Tuesday, according to a shift activity log released by the :
On 02/01/12 an NPD Officer took a report at a business in the 1400 block of Trancas Street regarding a suspect who fraudulently purchased over $2,300 of cigarettes using gift cards. The transaction was later declined by the gift card company.
On 02/02/12 about 2230 hours NPD received a call of a suspicious circumstance regarding subjects purchasing a large amount of cigarettes using gift cards from a business in the 600 block of Lincoln Avenue.

The subjects fled prior to NPD’s arrival. NPD Officers located the suspect’s vehicle in the area of Trancas Street/Jefferson Street.
Mikela Monique Dwayna Sims, 20 years old of Richmond, was one of the occupants and in possession of numerous gift cards and cigarette cartons.

Sims was “positively identified” as the suspect in the earlier fraudulent sale and booked at the , police said.
