Child, 3, Rescued in Napa Kidnapping Attempt

A 49-year-old homeless woman beat several people who tried to stop her from abducting the child at the Salvation Army, according to Napa police.

 

A homeless woman tried to abduct a 3-year-old child from the Tuesday, according to a shift activity log from the :

On 6-5-12 at about noon, Martha Ann Bertolino 5-14-63, Transient, grabbed the victim’s three year old child from inside the Salvation Army, 590 Franklin St, and started heading towards the front door.

The mother and witnesses attempted to take back the child and the suspect battered several of them. 

Eventually Bertolino was restrained and the child was returned to the mother, unharmed.

The reason for the kidnapping is under investigation, but the victim family did not know the suspect.  

 Bertolino was arrested on suspicion of kidnapping and battery, police said.
