#ButtsFire: Progress Made, Challenges Still Exist; 70% Contained Saturday A.M.

Difficult terrain and low humidity continue to be a challenge for firefighters battling the Butts Fire in Napa County, yet progress is being made and the fire is 70 percent contained as of Saturday morning, fire officials said today .

According to Cal Fire, flare-ups have been an issue, but are being quickly extinguished.

Firefighting resources have started the demobilization process and are becoming available to support new incidents, fire officials said.

According to Cal Fire it's taken the efforts of 1,682 fire personnel, 101 fire engines, 60 fire crews, 10 bulldozers, 9 helicopters, and 4 air tankers to battle the blaze thus far.

The fire broke out in Butts Canyon just after noon Tuesday and quickly spread, reaching 4,300 acres Thursday. Residents were evacuated in surrounding areas, Battalion Chief Chris Christopherson said.

The fire destroyed two homes and seven outbuildings. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

All road closures have been lifted, according to Cal Fire officials.

"With the current weather conditions and elevated fire danger, individuals enjoying the holiday weekend are asked to use extreme caution, 'one less spark- one less wildfire', Cal Fire officials said in a statement.
