“We got there and did a search of the building with a K-9 (unit) but he got away before we got there,” Napa Police Sgt. Don Honey said. “The assumption is that he got onto the roof and he escaped.”

The suspected burglar left behind his getaway truck, a Dodge pickup, and police were able to find his identity, which they declined to release pending an ongoing investigation.

Police closed a stretch of Third and Coomb Streets for about an hour-and-a-half to conduct a search of nearby buildings, but were unable to capture the suspect.

Honey said police do not know what, if anything, was taken, but police discovered items that the suspected burglar had gathered to take. Police also found evidence inside the law firm that tied the suspect to the crime, Honey said.

He said that police have identified only one burglar, but others might be identified as the investigation proceeds.
