Body Found in Car off Hwy 29

Updated 1:30 p.m.: Multiple news agencies are reporting the discovery near Calistoga of a deceased man in a crashed vehicle.

Caltrans workers Monday discovered a body inside a car that had crashed down an embankment in Napa County north of Calistoga, a California
Highway Patrol officer said.

The Mazda hatchback was spotted just before 11 a.m. by Caltrans workers on state Highway 29, CHP Officer Marc Johnston said.

The male driver, who was alone in the car, was dead, Johnston said.

It was not immediately clear when the crash occurred, but it was believed to have happened sometime in the past few days, Johnston said.

No other vehicles are believed to have been involved in the crash.

The incident remains under investigation by the CHP.

The Press-Democrat reports that a 67-year-old Santa Rosa man driving a white Mazda was reported missing a week ago.

A vehicle discovered Monday morning in a ditch off Highway 29 north of Tubbs Lane near Calistoga appeared to have a dead body inside it, according to a report on the .

The newspaper reports that authorities are investigating whether the body is that of a missing Sonoma man.

The car was described by the California Highway Patrol, on its traffic incident website, as a white Mazda hatchback.
