A 32-year old Calistoga transient has been identified in the Silverado Trail finding

The Napa County Coroner's office today released a statement saying the human remains that were found in a rural area outside of the city of Calistoga on December 18 have been positively identified.

Capt. Leroy Anderson of the Napa County Sheriff's Office reports that trhe individual is identified as Zahid Nahiem, AKA Jeremy Reid, a 32 year-old male whose last reported address was in Calistoga.

"[Nahiem] had not been reported missing," according to Anderson. "He was basically a transient."

While Jeremy Reid was his given name at birth, he had been adopted and Zahid Nahiem is the name that appears on his driver's license. His family has been notified.

The remains were found by a vineyard worker on the property of the Kennefick Ranch at 710 Silverado Trail, just outside the Calistoga city limits. Initial speculation was that the remains had been washed down by recent rainfall, but that theory has been discounted.

The body was determined as male in the Friday autopsy, but the identification was delayed until notification of next of kin.

The cause of death has not yet been determined. The coroner was able to get fingerprint identification from the decomposed remains, but they will undergo further detailed forensic examination in the weeks to come to help determine the cause of death.

The case is still under investigation by the Sheriff’s Investigation Bureau, and persons with information on this subject are asked to contact Detective Todd Hancock at 253-4591.
