Alleged Safeway Robber Jailed

Benjamin Paz, arrested last month on drug charges, was back in jail Thursday accused of stealing from the downtown Safeway. Information from the Napa Police Department does not indicate a conviction.

On 1-31-12 at approximately 0930 hours, Benjamin Paz (44 yrs) entered the located at 1620 Clay St.

Paz concealed store merchandise in a bag and tried to leave the store without paying for the items.

Paz was contacted by the store manager. The manager tried to recover the store merchandise by grabbing the bag from Paz.

A struggle ensued over the bag and Paz made threats to harm the store manager.

The manager let Paz leave the store and notified the police.

On 2-2-12 at approximately 0645 hours, Paz was seen walking in the area of Jefferson Street and Calistoga Street by officers.

Paz was arrested for robbery and booked into the , police said.
