Accused Auto Thief Arrested After Victim Spots Car, Napa Police Say

Trevor James Handy, 28, was arrested Tuesday evening after he reportedly drove a stolen car past its owner and a police officer on Soscol Avenue. Arrest information does not indicate a conviction.

A man whose car was stolen in Napa Tuesday got the vehicle back the same day after he spotted the thief driving past him as he met with a police officer, according to a shift activity log from the :

On 8/21/12 A Napa PD Officer was dispatched to investigate a theft of a vehicle that was stolen earlier in the day from a parking lot in the 1100 Block of Third St.

The Officer met with the reporting party near Soscol and Silverado Trail at approx. 2250 hrs.

During this contact the reporting party identified his stolen car as it drove past them N/B on Soscol Ave.

The Officer followed the stolen vehicle through downtown Napa until additional officers arrived on scene.

The vehicle was stopped in the area of Brown and G St and the driver, Trevor James Handy (10/14/83) of Napa, and a female passenger were detained.

The passenger was later released from the scene and Handy was booked into . The vehicle was returned to the owner.

Handy faces charges of auto theft and violation of probation, police said. Arrest information does not indicate a conviction.
