An 8-year-old girl was injured Wednesday afternoon when she ran into the side of a passing car on Coombs Street in Napa, a police sergeant said.
The girl suffered significant injuries to her head, collarbone andankle, Sgt. Kristofer Jenny said.
She was taken to Queen of the Valley Medical Center in Napa then transferred to Children's Hospital and Research Center in Oakland.
The girl, who lives in Napa, was running east across Coombs Street near Laurel Street when she hit the side of a 1997 Jeep Cherokee at about 2:30 p.m.
The Jeep, driven by 19-year-old Daniel Diaz, of Napa, was traveling south on Coombs Street, Jenny said.
Diaz was not speeding and was not cited, he said. The collision remains under investigation but Diaz is not believed to have been at fault, Jenny said.
