UPDATE: Cause of North Napa Fire Under Investigation

Officials say fire at home on Finch Court is not considered suspicious in origin.

Napa City Fire Capt. Steve Becker said the cause of a fire last night at a home on Finch Court in north Napa was still under investigation, but that its origin was not considered suspicious.

Becker said investigator so far have ruled out cooking activities as a potential cause, despite earlier published reports that the blaze appeared to have started in the kitchen.

"It does not appear to be related to anything in the kitchen or cooking activities," Becker said Monday.

In a separate matter, Becker said the Napa City Fire Department would like to remind residents that having a functioning smoke detector and following fire-safe practices become even more important during the holidays when many families may light candles, fireplaces or holiday lights of various kinds.

Witnesses at the scene of a house fire in north Napa tonight said firefighters now have it under control.

There was no word of anyone being home at the time of the fire and no reports of injuries.

However, according to neighbors who posted on Napa Valley Patch Facebook page, there were some people in the house when the fire started but they all got out in time.

Witnesses said the fire was contained before it could spread to neighboring homes.

Napa City Fire officials were not immediately available to comment, since they were all still at the scene at this hour. According to other published reports, the fire appears to have started in the kitchen and spread to the rest of the one-story home.

A second alarm has been called for a fire burning at a home in north Napa this evening.

Napa City Firefighter-Paramedic Dan D'Angelo said the call came in at around 8:55 p.m. tonight at the home on Finch Court near Summerfield Drive and Salvador Avenue.

Witnesses listed the address as 4456 Finch Court.

D'Angelo said both Napa City Fire Department and Cal Fire are responding.

He had no word on whether anyone was in the home at the time of the fire.
