2 Arrested After Fight in Napa

Napa police make multiple arrests over the weekend.


Two people were arrested Sunday after a fight and a foot pursuit by Napa police.


Eduardo Bermudez Gomez, 21, and a male juvenile were taken into custody on suspicion of gang-related and weapons charges, police said.

                   

Police said the incident began at about 7 p.m. Sunday when Napa Police officers responded to a report of a gang fight involving weapons in the 2700 block of Kilburn Avenue in Napa.

Officers located the fight in the Valley Oak Drive complex just off of Kilburn Avenue. All suspects fled the area when officers arrived.

There was a foot pursuit of several of the suspects involved in the fight.

Bermudez and a male juvenile were apprehended.

Both suspects are alleged to be Sureno Gang members. Gomez is on probation in Napa County with gang terms.

Officers located a machete in the trash can near the area where Gomez was apprehended.

Both subjects were arrested and booked.

A man was arrested early Saturday on alleged sexual assault charges.

Napa Police took Matthew Nicholas Knox into custody at about 1:30 a.m. in the vicinity of the 2100 block of Clay Street in Napa.

Police said the incident began when officers responded to the 2100 block of Clay Street for the report of an assault.

The female victim (an adult) was walking home from work. The victim told police she felt like she was being followed, police said.

In the 2100 block of Clay Street, Matthew Knox,alleg who does not know the victim, allegedly wrapped his arms around her, tried to restrain her and lowered his hands to her crotch.

The victim was able to get away, run to her home and phone the police.

When officers arrived on scene, Knox was involved in an argument with the victim’s roommate outside of the residence.

Knox immediately ran when he saw officers arriving. Knox was apprehended and arrested by officers after a foot pursuit. Knox fought officers until he was handcuffed.

Knox was booked at Napa County Department of Corrections.

A 43-year-old man was arrested Friday afternoon on suspicion of battery with serious bodily injury.

Douglass Dwayne Clark was taken into custody at about 4 p.m. in the vicinity of Cesta and Hemlock avenues in Napa.

 The incident began when officers responded to the area of Cesta and Hemlock avenues for a report of a possible domestic violence.

The person who called police stated that in this area, that person had seen a fight involving a man and a woman.

The male suspect had grabbed the female by the throat, the person said.

Clark was located by police with his live-in girlfriend of four years in the area. Clark was sweating profusely and had a red mark on his hand.

Clark did not want to stay in the area and asked to leave, police said.

When he was told he was being detained, he started to walk backwards and allegedly told officers that they would end up on the ground if they touched him.

Clark was arrested and booked at NCDC.

A man on state parole was arrested Sunday night on suspicion of being under the influence of a controlled substance and child endangerment.

James Robert Smith, 43, was taken into custody by Napa Police at about 6:30 p.m. in the vicinity of Third and Coombs streets in Napa.

Police said a Napa Police Department officer stopped Smith, who was driving his vehicle, for a mechanical violation.

In his vehicle were his two small children, 2 and 4 years old. Smith allegedly showed signs and symptoms of being under the influence of a controlled substance, police said.

Smith performed a field sobriety test unsatisfactorily police said. Smith is currently on state parole.

Smith was arrested and booked at Napa County Department of Corrections.
