A 12-year-old girl riding her bicycle to American Canyon Middle School suffered a sore ankle but was otherwise unhurt after being brushed by a car in the crosswalk at Elliott and Benton streets just before 8 a.m. today, police said.
An American Canyon Police Department spokesman said the girl told them she was struck or brushed lightly by a grey car that did not stop. She continued riding for a few seconds, but then fell off the bike and hurt her ankle.
The bike was not damaged, police said.
The girl went into the school and told the story to school officials, who contacted police and American Canyon Fire Department.
Paramedics from the fire department checked her out and found no major injuries, police said. The girl declined transport to a hospital, police said.
It was not immediately clear if she continued to attend school today.
Anyone who witnessed the incident is asked to call American Canyon Police at 707-551-0600.
