Vine Drivers Should Keep Their Eyes Peeled for Disabled

By Dianne Guess
The Vine provides much needed service in the Napa Valley, but too often drivers pass up disabled passengers on Trancas to wait for another bus--if there is one. This happened on Friday night at the stop near The T-Mobile Store and Whole Foods. My poor brother. He could not believe his eyes. He had gathered all of his shopping bags and was on point at the stop, but the driver cruised right by him. He was frantic. It was the last bus. The light turned red, and the bus had to stop, half way through the intersection. My brother turned on his wheelchair and summoned all of its power. He entered the intersection and parked his wheelchair in front of the bus. The driver still would not pick him up--and he would not budge. She threatened to call the police on my former U.S. Air Force Tech Sgt. Brother, Gerald Guess. Still she would not pick him up. She said he should have had a flashlight. The police came and told my brother to get out of the street. But at least she picked him up. Horrible.
