Dear Editor,
I’m writing to encourage community members to take the Live Healthy Napa County (LHNC) online survey available on the homepage of the County of Napa website to express your ideas about
1) what health means to you and
2) how our community organizations can best collaborate together to support everyone’s health.
Surveys are available in English or Spanish and must be completed by November 30, 2012. If you don’t have internet access perhaps ask a friend or someone in a helping role in our community if they might be willing to download a survey for you in print form.
This individual survey is about more than hospitals, doctors visits and health insurance. It is also about whether we are stressed at work, whether we can find recreation that makes it easier and more enjoyable for us to lead an active lifestyle -- and other topics related to our emotional and physical well being.
For example, the survey asks “what are the three most important factors that make this county a good place to live?” As a parent, I chose to identify “good schools” as a top priority. I was delighted that I could voice how big a role I think good schools play in fostering healthy children and a healthy community. Your answer to this question may be different - which is why it is important that as many of us as possible take this survey.
Parents and teens are additionally invited to participate in two focus groups in English and Spanish on this same topic on Wednesday, November 28 from 6:30pm-8:00pm in the board room at the Napa Valley Unified School District Education Center in Napa, at the corner of Lincoln and Jefferson Streets. Child care will be available.
Please RSVP to Heidi at Cope Family Center, 252-1123 x 104 to attend the focus groups. Similar focus groups have been offered throughout the valley by a variety of organizations.
Additionally, your help is appreciated in informing your friends, family, co-workers and neighbors about the Live Healthy Napa County’s Community Health Survey so that might participate in it as well.
Wishing you and your families a happy, healthy holiday season,
