Cyclist Badly Hurt in Soscol Crash

Another rider's report from the scene of a rush-hour crash that left a male bicyclist in critical condition Monday morning, according to the Napa Valley Register.

Napa resident Hank Zwetsloot emailed this message to Napa Patch Monday morning. The male bicyclist was hospitalized in critical condition following the collision, according to a report in the .

On my way to my work out at Napa College on my bicycle, I came by an vehicle-bicycle accident that had occurred just about minutes ago, at Soscol and Jackson, at approx 8:15 a.m.

A Lexus had a smashed-in windshield, a crushed bike was on the ground and an injured bicyclist was being attended by paramedics. When I came by again at 09:20 the bike and car were still at the scene and the officer directing traffic said it looked real bad and suggested prayer for the young man injured.

I have been a bicyclist for 65-plus years and have had a few close calls.
With the increased bike use the last few years and no bicycle education, accidents are going to happen more frequently.

My suggestion is that the city appropriate some money and offer bicycle training along with the bicycle routes. Also, the police should cite all the bicyclists going the wrong way on the streets and sidewalks.
