Rock Icon Ray Manzarek, Formerly of Napa Valley, Dead at 74

Ray Manzarek, a keyboardist who founded the rock band The Doors in 1965, has died.

He was 74, according to an article in Billboard.

According to the bio on his website, Manzarek was a Napa Valley resident.

In 2011, he told M Music & Musicians magazine that he was living a farmer's life in the Napa Valley, going to bed early and getting up at 6 a.m.

The Billboard article says that Manzarek founded The Doors when he met poet Jim Morrison in a chance encounter in Venice Beach in 1965.
