Memorial Fund Honors New Tech Napa Mom Kelly Melton, 53

Kelly Melton was laid to rest over the weekend, and her family has set up a memorial fund in her name to benefit Napa's New Technology High School.

At her family's request, a memorial fund to benefit New Technology High School has been created to honor the life of Kelly Melton, the late wife of Napa police chief Richard Melton and mother of two sons who attended local schools.

According to an announcement on the New Tech website,

In addition to leading the Penguin Parent Club, Kelly was a fundraiser, master of ceremonies, student chauffeur, event coordinator, Prom Queen, recruiter and loyal friend and confidant to every student, staff member and family at New Tech.

Most recently her efforts focused on ensuring that every New Tech graduate had a chance to attend college. The entire New Tech community has been impacted by Kelly's generosity, wit and endless pursuit of excellence.

Born March 1, 1959 in Florida, Melton passed away Jan. 21, 2013, according to her obituary published on the Tulocay Cemetery website. She and Richard Melton were married for 31 years.

She was laid to rest at Tulocay following her funeral Saturday at First Christian Church in Napa.
